Philippians 2:2 KJV
Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
It is a pretty easy job to be selfish. We only have to think of ourselves, our needs and our wants. We do not have to mind about how other people feel about our actions and behaviors. So long as the big “I” is satisfied, then all is well.
Piece of cake, right?
How about trying something more challenging-like being selfless for a change? If we look at Christ’s very example, it is quite obvious that He has every right to be selfish. Why not? He is God in the flesh, after all. He has angels who stand by to heed His every beck and call. He is powerful enough to raise a dead person to life.
But He chose the better way. He chose selflessness.
Instead of coming to Earth to be served, He came to serve. He humbled Himself to the lowly form of a Carpenter’s son and died a shameful death for the sins of the whole world. As Christians, we should focus and fix our eyes on Jesus our Savior. “Get yourself out of your eye by getting your eye off yourself. ” [Max Lucado]
May it be our prayer to pursue selflessness and humility as we continue to serve God daily in our lives. Knowing this, that our service may be to Him as a sweet smelling perfume worthy of His acceptance.
