“I have chosen the way of truth. I have obeyed your laws.” Psalm 119:30
One of God’s greatest gifts to mankind is the gift of choice. Ever since the beginning of man’s existence, the Lord already gave him the responsibility of choosing between what is good and evil. When our first parents, Adam and Eve, ate of the tree with which God forbade them, they made a choice to disobey Him and follow the own dictates of their hearts coupled with the tempting enticements of the Serpent.
Today, we measure true success by the choices one makes out of his life. We have a lot of options available at our disposal in this day and age, and it is up to us to choose which one is most useful to us. For a christian however, it isn’t just a matter of choosing which is which from the earthly things that he is blessed with. It’s not just about choosing the right course, the right job, the right investment, nor the right spouse. When he makes a choice, he always takes into account God’s view of his decision.
Sometimes we must choose differently from the majority. Sometimes we must choose unconformity from compromise. Sometimes we must choose discipline from tolerance. And all the time, we must choose God’s approval over man’s applause.
I pray that as we make our decisions, let us always remind ourselves that it is better to please an audience of one God than that of a thousand crowds of men. May we always remember that God’s eternal gift of choice also comes with eternal and most of the time irreparable consequences.
