Project Grace Day 7: We Need A Big God

The world can sometimes be an overwhelming place. With all of the current happenings therein, we feel that we are about to be swallowed in all the havoc that surrounds us. Even in a small setting – may it be our workplace, our classroom, or even our own home, every environment we have has its own pressure.

Exodus accounts the wondrous story of how the Israelites were able to get out of Pharaoh’s iron hand and ultimately out of Egypt. Behind it all, we can see the name Yahweh. For Israelites, ‘Yahweh’ is a name too holy to be spoken by human lips. They would substitute it with the word ‘Adonai’, which means “Lord”. Whenever they need to write it down, the scribes would first take a bath before writing it and destroy the pen afterward.

Another title given to God in the Scriptures is “I AM”. In most bibles, these two words are all written in Caps Lock. Why such respect and reverence for this name? God is the “One who is”, the”One who was”, and the “One who will be”. He is the cause of everything, the very reason why we exist as recorded in the book of John. In Him we move, and breathe, and live.

I am sharing the meaning and impact of God’s name because we certainly need to know that He is a BIG God. He is unlike little gods in our lives who have no power whatsoever. He is the King of Kings, the Lord of lords, the Ruler of the Universe, the Great Physician, the Good Sheperd, our Everlasting Father. So vast and so deep is His love for us that we cannot really fathom it. So holy is His name that even the Devil trembles at the mere mention of it.

So why is there still room for fear in our hearts? With God, all things are possible.

My prayer is that we can be aware of God’s big presence wherever we go and whatever we do. My God is so big, so strong, and so mighty there’s nothing my God cannot do.
